About Commissions

I have been very fortunate to work on many different commissions over the years. This could be from fun gifts for family members to book illustrations or even large scale murals. Below is a selection of some of my favourites.

If you would like to commission a picture, please get in contact by e-mail or phone. I am very happy to chat to you about your requirements.

I am available to visit your school or library for a talk, workshop or project.

Book Illustrations

I've done many books for Schools as well as individual writers from all over the world. Currently I am illustrating a book for Italy, Germany and have completed one in the States.

'Erlend's adventures in Kirkwall' was done with Primary 5 at Glaitness primary School and sold out very quickly. Since then an App has been produced from their character for the Kirkwall Town Heritage trail. I worked with the class to create a storyline, a main character and a book format they felt was most suitable to display their work. It was a very rewarding project.

Joining The Scottish Book Trust has been an honour and a great personal goal for me. I enjoyed hosting an illustrators talk in Mull last year and being part of the Scottish Book Week in Kirkwall during October 2023. My latest book is called ‘Farm Numbers with Robin’ and is a farm counting book.

I am an active member of Reedsy - an online portfolio to link up writers and illustrators from all over the world has been a great opportunity for me. The latest project I've been working on is called ‘George and The Poison Arrow’, the second book by Paul Boothroyd, Germany. I hope to share more about this title soon.

Murals/Large Scale Work

I've enjoyed a few large scale pieces over the years. Usually painted on MDF so I can complete the artwork in my studio, then I fix everything in place at the venue.

The image on the left hand side is one from the Disney Magic Cruise Ship 2015. They were a special visitor to Hatston Pier and requested a special piece of artwork.

We Invaded the Port of Kirkwall' was a pleasure to produce. As a tour guide on duty that day I was extra proud when I watched many of the visitors have their photo taken behind my board!

The mural on the top right is from the NHS Maternity Unit in Kirkwall. It's such a special place for many people in Orkney -the place were they arrive. The hospital has moved and the murals have gone with it.

The Kalisgarth Murals (bottom right) are actually series of 5 and I absolutely loved painting these. They wanted murals to reflect memories for the elderly people who were spending time at the Centre.

Personal Commissions

This type of artwork is unique, made to measure and is carefully put together by myself. It makes for a very personal present for a variety of occasions - A new nursery, retirement/leaving present, a special Birthday, housewarming or wedding gift. Very often the extended close family want a smaller print version of the Original as a keepsake of this special item.

The picture to the left was to celebrate a retirement. I love it as it is vibrant and full of fun. The second was a personal commission for a daughter who lives faraway. It feels like a nostalgic Orkney view - perfect as a keepsake.
